For our brilliant Grandad xx A story to share of love and laughter, Tales from a Grandad so adored, We’ve grown up hearing his excellent mottos, To “Live life to the full, and “Never let ourselves get bored”. A family man from the very start, Despite heading out to work in Aden It wasn’t long before he returned to Suffolk, Reunited with Nanna Betty, his fair maiden. They became Bill and Betty Basham, of 7 Bacon road Barham, A tongue twister at which they’d laugh, Going on to have 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, a great grandchild, Playing Christmas games was no easy task. There was never too big a problem, For he had solutions to them all, Whether it be a late-night trip to B+Q, Or a lawnmower-related emergency phone call. When asked what he’d been up to, He’d very often reply, That he’d been on the go since Monday, “Running around like a blue-arsed fly”. An exceptionally talented man, He could put his mind to any task, Often inventions to make life easier, Fixing a car was no big ask “There’s no such word as can’t”, Was another favourite phrase, Whether that be used to encourage us all, Or help navigate through life’s complex maze. Grandad was partial to a ride out for dinner, Fish and chips, or a latte with 7 sugars, no less, We’d often meet around a comfy table, With a weeks’ worth of funny stories to address. “Life isn’t a rehearsal”, He sometimes used to say, To inspire us to make the most of our days, And not let silly things get in the way. Grandad instilled in us the importance of family, Who he always held so dear, We know that he was immensely proud, And how loved he was, remains clear.
